Thousands of homes are without water in Gloucestershire because of a burst water main.

Here's the latest statement from Severn Trent Water:

Around 10,000 of the 12,000 customers who were affected by a burst on a 15” main are confirmed to have had water rerouted back to their homes. We were alerted to the burst on Bamfurlong Lane in Cheltenham at 4:50am this morning.  This has affected customers in areas of Cheltenham and Wynchcombe.  The main was isolated at 6:45 but Bamfurlong Lane is closed in both directions and diversions are in place.

Water has been restored to an estimated 10,000 properties, however customers may be experiencing a difference in pressure levels at this time. Severn Trent are in liaison with Gloucester County Council Emergency Planning to identify those customers who may require emergency supplies of water. If customers have any enquiries please call the Helpline on 0800 783 4444.

We are doing everything we can to get supplies back to the rest of the area as quickly as possible.  We are moving water from other areas into Cheltenham and we deployed tankers to bring water into the area.  We apologise to our customers for the  inconvenience this has caused.

Fire crews have also helped to evacuate people from a motel in Cheltenham, which has been flooded.

They were called to the Briarfields Motel at around 6.45am.

Around 20 people were helped from the Motel and caravan park to dry ground.

A number of schools in the area are closed as a result.

Check out the school closure list here.
