A man in the Bronx has been arrested for animal abuse after kicking a small dog belonging to his partner - who is now pleading for his three pets to be returned after defending his boyfriend's horrendous actions.

Trinton Hatton, 33, was arrested after shocking security camera footage appeared to show him repeatedly kicking, whipping and hitting one of his partner's dogs while he was meant to be caring for it.

Nashan Brown, the dogs' owner and Hatton's boyfriend, said he was at work when the footage was recorded in his building's elevator

Hatton was then arrested and charged with various forms of animal abuse by cops, with investigators later returning to the property to seize Brown's three dogs.

The pets were taken by New York authorities to an undisclosed animal hospital for further evaluation following the vicious assault.

Brown is now defending his partner's actions, arguing that the footage does not tell the whole story.

'Do I understand why people are upset? Yes. Do it look like it was excessive? Yes. Is he that type of individual? He's really not,' Brown said as he wiped away tears in an interview with NBC

Brown described himself as 'the victim of the situation', and now is desperately hoping to get his dogs returned to him.

The Riverdale resident claims he walked into the situation after being at work while his boyfriend was dog-sitting.

When one of the animals got loose on a walk he said, Hatton madly rushed to save the dog as a neighbor started yelling, before the boyfriend dragged the poor creature into the elevator.

In the horrifying footage, Hatton can be seen carrying it by the scruff of its neck before repeatedly hitting it with full force.

The footage also shows him whipping the dog with its lead, lifting it above his head as he appears to pin the helpless animal down.

While the relentless attack is going on, another of the pets can be seen worriedly pinning its ears back in the other corner.

The violence continues as the elevator goes up from the ground to the fourth floor, with the man aggressively kicking the dog as it helplessly cowers in the corner.

He then kicks the dog with such force that it flies across the elevator and appears to slam into the opposite wall.

He then goes over to the dog and continues to violently punish it, kicking it out of the lift seemingly without any hesitation or sign of remorse.

'Do I feel like he meant any of that? No. Do I feel like he's sorry and he's hurting right now? Yes,' Brown said of his partner's actions.

The video has been viewed thousands of times on social media after it was leaked, and Brown claimed that people are judging the situation unfairly.

'I was crying yesterday. He asked me, "I'll just leave out your life. If you don't want me here, just say that"... He's really, really remorseful and that's what social media don't see.'

Brown also said he is struggling to understand why the dogs were taken away from him after his partner's arrest, with investigators arriving at his property with a warrant on Monday.

'I wasn't the individual that you said abused the dogs, you gave me my dogs back and then you come back three days later and take my dogs,' Brown said.

Brown also claims his privacy has been violated after someone leaked the video to social media along with his address.

'I have no dogs, I have no privacy. I'm getting no respect. I'm getting no help from anyone,' said Brown.

The NYPD is now bringing animal abuse charges against Hatton, who has been arrested and charged with torture, injuring and not feeding an animal.
